Kazchrome increases exports of ferroalloys in the first quarter by 6.4%

Kazchrome, part of the Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), exported 404 thousand tonnes of ferroalloys in January-March 2019, the company reported. During the same period in 2018, 379.5 thousand tonnes were exported. Thus, exports grew by 6.4%. "Ferroalloys of TNK Kazchrome are imported by leading stainless steel producers in China, Japan, the USA, the countries of the European Union and Southeast Asia," the press service specified.

The company announced plans to implement projects to expand production capacity, increase efficiency and reliability of equipment. In the next five years, it is planned to renovate shop No. 6 of the Aksu Ferroalloy Plant with the improvement of TEC at the expense of applying to preheat of the charge with heat from the combustion of the furnace's ferroalloy exhaust gases. The project is at the implementation stage.

It is also planned to modernise the furnace 43 at the Aksu Ferroalloy Plant with the transition to the production technology of ferrochrome silicon without the use of coke. The project is at the stage of feasibility study development.

The possibility of introducing the technology of pouring ferroalloys with the production of the product fraction without crushing is being considered, the project is at the stage of introducing a pilot machine. Kazchrome has also planned the construction of a utilisation power plant on ferroalloy gas at the base of smelting plant No. 4 of Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant. It is planned to use waste ferroalloy gases for the production of electricity.

The decision on the implementation will be made after the shop reaches its full capacity and determines the potential capacity of the power plant. In addition, the company intends to implement a project for processing stale slag from the production of refined ferrochrome. Relevant research work is underway. The company did not specify the cost of projects.

Kazchrome is a full-cycle mining and smelting cluster, ranging from mineral exploration, mining, and enrichment, to metallurgical production with high value-added products.
